Case in point happened yesterday while Liz and I were having breakfast at K.C.'s Cabin in Spring Grove, Illinois. Two guys were talking and one wasn't happy about his work experience. He probably used the "F" word once or twice a sentence.
It was used as an adjective, adverb, noun and verb.
And, he is not the only one we've heard overuse the word. And, surprisingly, often I've heard women use it. And, I have heard college-educated people using it as well as men in their 50s and on up. Of course, today's youth use it a lot when they're together. Part of their culture, I guess.
The biggest problem with overuse is that the word loses its impact. It becomes just another word.
Plus, some of us still find the word offensive.
Perhaps it should be treated with a punishment like Ralphie got for using the word in "A Christmas Story," the soap in his mouth, or what Schwartz got when Ralphie's mother told Schwartz's mother about where he got the word.
Even better, someone should take the time to make a short thesaurus of words that can be used instead of it. People could bring them along and give it to the "F" folks.
My opinion, Anyway. --RoadDog
