Instrumental R&B band served as the house band for the influential soul label Stax Records. Played with Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave.
Their biggest hit was "Green Onions" which went to #3 pop and #1 R&B in 1962.
The original members were Booker T. Jones on organ and piano, Steve Cropper on guitar, Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass and Al Jackson, Jr. on drums.
It was a racially integrated band with two white and two black members. The name MGs came from Memphis Group.
