Singer, songwriter whose 1970 "Rose Garden" was a country and pop hit. Died July 30, 2015. Born September 26, 1947, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
She penned Merle Haggard's "I Am a Lonesome Fugitive" and "(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers." In 1967 she began appearing on ABC's Lawrence Welk Show. She won a Grammy in 1971 for "(I Never Promised You) A Rose Garden."
I listened to both "Rose Garden" and "Stranger" returning from North Carolina on Thursday. These songs were on a 100-song group of CDs called Country Party. That was the day she died.
