The band played what was called Down Home Rock, which preceded what became known as Southern Rock. I have also heard their music called Swamp Rock. Either way, this sure prepared my way for Southern Rock.
They headlined at the Woodstock music and Arts Festival in New York in 1969, but few remember their show as they took the stage at 3 a.m. after a particularly long Grateful Dead set (jamming you know). Most of the people were sleeping by then. And, even worse for those of us not there, they were cut out of the famous movie. And that was because John Fogerty denied permission to use it. Why, John?
Tom Fogerty quit the band in 1971 The writer of "Good Golly Miss Molly" sued the band for plagiarizing it in their song "Travellin' Band."
