Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

Top of the Charts This Date-- Part 2

More Number Ones from This Date.

1969 NA NA HEY HEY KISS HIM GOODBYE-- Steam-- As a White Sox fan, this is a theme song that too many others have copied. Sorry to see Sox organist Nancy Faust is retiring after this year. She was the one who started it.
1959 MACK THE KNIFE-- Bobby Darrin

1949 MULE TRAINER-- Frankie Laine
1939 SCATTER-BRAIN-- Frankie Msters (See Below)

1929 TIP TOE THROUGH THE TULIPS-- Nick Lucas-- (See Below)
1919 OH! WHAT A PAL WAS MARY-- Henry Burr
1909 I'VE GOT RINGS ON MY FINGERS-- Ada Jones

FRANKIE MASTERS

Born 1904, Died 1991. had a dozen hit records between the 30s and 40s. Big Band leader noted for singing and guitar playing. Scatter-Brain became his theme song. Featured what he called bell tone music where the chords were staggered to give a different sound.

NICK LUCAS

Born 1897 Died 1982. Called the "Grandfather of Jazz Guitar." Very popular from the mid 20s to early 30s. Of course, when I think of "Tip Toe Through the Tulips," I immediately think of Tiny Tim. Lucas became friends with Tiny Tim and sang this song at Tim and Miss Vicki's wedding on the Tonight Show. Sold over 84 million records.
