Music Deaths: John Prine

JOHN PRIDE, 73

Died 7 April 2020

One of those great Chicago folk singers who came out of the 60s and 70s.  He never had a Top 100 song, but that's okay.  His music was just too good for it.

Right now, I am sitting here and listening to the You Tube Mix of John Prine.    "Summer's End" is a good way to sum his life up.  He's "Come On Home."  Try to watch the video and not tear up.  It was about the loss of a young mother in the opiate crisis and her father and daughter.

My favorite songs by him are "Illegal Smile", "Donald & Lydia", "Sam Stone", "Angel From Montgomery", "In Spite of Ourselves", "Lake Marie" and "Dear Abby."  "Lake Marie" is especially of interest to me because it is about one of the two lakes that make up the name of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, where we used to spend a lot of time at Donovan's Reef.  It is about ten miles from our house.

I'll have a drink to you, John.
