Yep! Bad Weather= Round Lake Spring Carnival: The Curse Continues

That dreaded nasty Round Lake, Illinois, spring carnival is back on Rollins Road for the umpteenth year and, as usual, is bringing some really crummy weather.  Just about everyone in the area knows about it and what it brings.

I kind of knew it at the beginning of the week when temps started averaging 40-50 degrees, overcast and off-and-on rain/drizzle.  It had to be, and Thursday, we got confirmation when we talked to a man at the Fox Lake American Legion who confirmed that the carnival was indeed getting ready to open this weekend.

We had the crummy weather all the way to today, but even with sun and temps in the lower 60s, there is a lot of cold in the breeze.

The spring carnival curse started way back when I was a Jaycee in Round Lake around 1977.  I had just gotten into a ticket booth on a day with temps in the upper 70s, sun and just great weather.  Within an hour, temps had dropped to the 40s with a mighty cold strong wind a-blowing.

Just about every time the carnival has been in town since then, the bad weather has come with it.

And, even worse, that horrible carnival plays for two straight weekends.
