About Those Songs I Didn't Remember On the Last Post-- Part 1

On the May 1, 1964 WLS Top Ten post, I mentioned three songs I didn't remember ever hearing.  So, I went to good old You Tube, the place to hear those obscure songs and sure enough, they had all three of them.

First up was "LONG COOL ONE" by the Wailers.  Of course, with a name like the Wailers, I had to wonder about reggae.  It wasn't.  A great song, though.  An instrumental backed on the You Tube cut with "High Wall."  Definitely a song Little Steven should use as intro-outro on his Underground Garage show,

According to Joel Whitburn's Top Pop book, "Tall Cool One" was originally out in 1959 and went to #36 during a 13 week chart run debuting 5/18/59.  They had a follow up, "Mau-Mau" which peaked at #68 in five chart weeks debuting 8/17/59.  Then, in 1964, "Tall Cool One" returned to#38.    I'm not sure why it came back.  Perhaps it was in a movie?

The Wailers were a teenage rock and roll instrumental quintet from Tacoma, Washington, formed in 1958.
