WLS: 20 Best Silver Dollar Survey Records From Our First Four Years-- May 1, 1964

Hard to believe it, but WLS had just been playing pop music for four years by May 1, 1964.  They compiled a list of the top 20 songs they'd played since their beginning in 1960.  I am not sure what criteria they used.  Maybe it was just deejay favorites or they counted weeks on survey and position.

1.  I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND--  Beatles
2.  SHE LOVES YOU--  Beatles
3.  TWIST AND SHOUT--  Beatles
4.  DOMINIQUE--  Singing Nun
5.  I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU--  Ray Charles

6.  SHERRY--  Four Seasons
7.  SUKIYAKI--  Kyu Sakamoto
8.  SOLDIER BOY--  Shirelles
9.  CALCUTTA--  Lawrence Welk
10.  MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK--  Angels

11.  EXODUS--  Ferrante & Teicher
12.  SUGAR SHACK--  Jimmy Gilmer
13.  IT'S MY PARTY--  Lesley Gore
14.  HEY PAULA--  Paul and Paula
15.  ROSES ARE RED--  Bobby Vinton

16.  WONDERFUL SUMMER--  Robin Ward
17.  DUKE OF EARL--  Gene Chandler
18.  PATCHES--  Dickey Lee
19.  STRANGER ON SHORE--  Acker Bilk
20.  EASIER SAID THAN DONE--  Essex

Kind of interesting to find the Singing Nun, Lawrence Welk, Ferrante & Teicher and Acker Bilt on a top twenty for young folks.  No big surprise with the Beatles in the top three spots.
